So what am I gonna do in Egypt? (with comments!!)
July 10th – Depart Chicago O’Hare for Egypt via Istanbul. (in business class, it’s all they had left)
July 12th – Arrive Cairo VERY EARY IN THE MORNING (1:30am
) Hopefully get an airport transfer and head to the hotel. Kind of just chilling this first day. We don’t do anything yet so I kind of just get to explore till I have to be at the hotel at 5pm for a pre-group meeting.
July 13th – In the morning we leave to check out the Egyptian Museum housing 100,000 relics. Later we head over to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
July 14th – Free day in Cairo to explore or go on a tour to learn more about it’s history. In the evening we transfer to the train station to board a first class car to Aswan via overnight.
July 15th – In the afternoon we board a felucca and sail around the Elephantine and Kitchener Islands checking out the Nilometer, Aga Khan Mausoleum and the Tombs of the Nobles. We’re also going to learn about the lifestyles and customs of the original inhabitants of this region.
July 16th – Early depart to Abu Simbel to visit the temple built by Ramesses II. We’ll also visit the Temple of Hathor. That afternoon is free time to explore.
July 17th - July 19th – On a voyage along the Nile sailing on a Felucca. Three days of relaxation as we sleep under the stars in sleeping bags. (and hopefully mosquito nets)
July 20th – Traveling to the capital of Luxor, we visit the Temple of Karnak and the Temple of Luxor. In the evening, we return to Karnak for the famed Sound and Light show.
July 21st – The part I am looking most forward to it the tour of the Valley of the Kings. While there, we’ll also visit Ramesseim Temple, the Temple of the Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon.
July 22nd – July 24th – Now moving to Hurghada on the Red Sea we have a few days to just chill after touring so many temples. Beach, water, and at night, some night life. (nothing crazy)
July 25th – Make our way back to Cairo on this day long journey.
July 26th – Trip ends (for the most of us) after breakfast at the hotel. I don’t depart till the next day so again, I have some time to spare in Cairo.
July 27th – Depart Cairo back to Chicago via JFK and Washington DC. Using the powers of backwards travel, I will depart on the 27th and arrive on the 27th, but it’ll have been a long day. I get to sleep in my own bed tonight.
